Niche Pursuits Podcast: Find Your Next "Niche" Business Idea!

In today's episode, I share an interview I did with Grant Baldwin from TheSpeakerLab.com.

Grant is someone that knows the speaking game inside and out.  He has been a professional speaker for years and now teachers others how to book their own speaking gigs.

So, during the interview we discuss these 2 aspects of his business: how to actually get booked as a speaker (and get paid for it) and second, how he has build the training side of his business and how that is going.

As a quick summary, Grant Baldwin shares that he makes over six figures speaking at events.  However, his business as a whole will be close to crossing the seven figure mark when you add in his training courses.

I was fascinated with how Grant has building the training side of his business through Facebook ads and webinars.  So, if you have a training product (or are thinking about creating one), there is a great discussion about how you can grow that part of your business.

During the course of the episode, Grant shares a few resources:

  • TheSpeakerLab.com - where you can learn more about Grant or join his training programs.
  • MySpeakerFee.com - A speaker fee calculator that can show you how much you should expect to make when speaking.
  • FreeSpeakerWorkshop.com - Grant's free webinar training that teaches you "How To Start Booking (And Getting Paid For) Speaking Engagements Without Having An Existing Platform Or Being Sales-y"

Today, I’ve got an interview with Chandler Bolt from Self-Publishing School. I met Chandler at a conference about two years ago and was immediately impressed with his business and overall attitude.

In addition to hearing his story about how he made Self-Publishing School a success, you’ll also hear about how he recommends writing a book and promoting it. We also dive into some of his productivity hacks and routines that have made him be able to accomplish so much so quickly.

In today's interview I talk with Dave Chesson.  Dave is the founder of Kindlepreneur.com, his blog that will teach you how to write and sell Kindle ebooks.  In addition, he is the creator of KDP rocket, a software application for self publishers to help them find Kindle keywords.

Dave is actually a long time reader of Niche Pursuits and started out by creating a couple of niche websites and then moving into publishing Kindle ebooks.

One point that Dave really drives home is just how important it is to fully monetize your site when you have good traffic coming to certain articles.  Dave has a great way of explaining this concept by drawing an analogy with Monopololy, boardwalk, and building hotels.

In my interview today, I talked with somebody that has built a six figure a year business on Fiverr, yup, on Fiverr.

Kendell Rizzo started out as a freelancer doing just about any writing job she could find. However, when she finally narrowed her focus on the niche of crowdfunding, the number of clients she got grew significantly.

In addition, she was able to charge higher prices. What I find fascinating about all of this is that she was able to use the Fiverr platform not to charge $5 of job but to charge hundreds of dollars per job depending on what was purchased.

Today, I’m excited to bring you a guest interview with Nick Hasche, a niche website builder.

Nick started building niche websites just a little bit over a year ago. He actually started right alongside Niche Site project 3.0, which is why I’m really excited about this interview because he learned how to build niche sites by following along with that project and implementing the things that I was teaching.

Nick has taken what we taught and implemented some of his own unique angles as well. His portfolio of sites has reach revenues of $10,000 a month.

If you’d like to hear how Nick has done that, go ahead and listen to the interview. We go through his entire process from keyword research, content creation, and of course, link building as well. He has some very unique strategies to consider. Overall, I hope you enjoy the interview.

In today's podcast episode, Jake, Jason (who was introduced as a new team member in my last post), and I chat about the lessons learned at Traffic and Conversion Summit and we also give some of our thoughts on Niche Site Project 3.

Last month, we all attended Traffic and Conversion Summit, which is always a great conference. We each share our biggest takeaway that we hope to apply directly into our business.

Next we discuss Niche Site Project 3.  Now that it has been a year, the sites are not performing as well as we had originally projected.  We discuss why that might be.  In particular, why some people are successful at building niche sites and some are not.

Today I have another guest interview to review their niche site.  I was able to record an interview with Dee Bryant and discuss her site, TheDogEffect.com.

Dee started her site near the beginning of Niche Site Project 3 and has been able to grow it to $300 per month in revenue!  She's done a great job with her site so far by following the steps I've laid out.  However, she wanted to hop on a call to discuss how she could take the site to the next level.

In particular, we discuss how to do more link building and outreach.  In addition, we review what her ongoing content strategy should be in terms of schedule and types of articles she should be focusing on.

Overall, I hope you enjoy the discussion!

Today, I’ve got a really great guest interview for you. Justin has several niche websites. He’s making great money from Google Adsense, that’s how he got started out.

He’s also very involved in the app business. He’s on the Google Android Play Store and he did share that he’s been doing about $1,000 per day in revenue this month. It’s a significant business there, and then even larger than that business is his Amazon FBA business that we dive into as well.

Today, I have somebody joining me as a guest on a podcast, his name is Scott Williams.

Scott’s story is pretty interesting because like many of you, he has tried and failed to build a few niche websites and his luck changed when he decided you know what, instead of trying and building everything from scratch, I’m going to go out and I’m going to buy a website that’s already making money so that I can use that website and learn from what’ working on that website, why is it doing so well?

He invested some money, about $28,000, to buy a website making about $1,000 dollars back in October 2016, so just a few months ago, 4 or 5 months ago. That has turned out to be a great investment for him so far. The site as of January 2017 is making about $2200 per month. Scott has done very well, he’s doubled the revenue of that website.

During this interview, we’re going to dive into what’s working well for him, what he did to revamp the website and make it perform better, and then of course what he’s done now in terms of link building and outreach and a few other things in between so hopefully you enjoy the interview.

Today, I’ve got a great guest on the show. It’s Khalid Farhan from PassiveJournal.com, that’s his blog over there and he also offers SEO services.

What’s interesting about Khalid is his journey from being a student in Bangladesh and working for just $1 per article as a freelancer on Upwork and other freelance services, to going to owning his own business.

He’s built out a number of niche websites (as he shared on a guest post here), a couple of which he has sold in 2016, one for $12,000 and another for $26,000. We’ll also talk about the current income he makes from his niche websites that he still owns as well. He’s doing very well building out and ranking websites and then selling a lot of those and then he also does quite well with his SEO services that we’ll touch on just a little bit as well.

The majority of this interview will focus on how Khalid is building out his niche websites. We even reveal one of those niche websites that he sold recently so you can look at that as a template if you’d like to. Then we dive into some really cool link building strategies, a couple of very interesting ones that I have not tackled myself. These are new ideas to me that I actually do think could work pretty well. It’s a unique approach. Listen for that.
